DESKTOP HARDWARE RECOMMENDATIONS
The range of desktops can vary from $400-$4000. As with most technology and solutions your get what you pay for. At the $400-$600 price range you often get consumer or home based solutions. This price point is not meant for business use and will not come with extended warranty, quality parts and options. The other end of the scale is very specialized quality PC’s. This would be meant for autocad or gaming needs.
For most businesses and our client base business class computers from a name brand manufacturer configured properly will do the trick and will last years without having upgrade issues, or premature replacement.
Here is a guideline of what you should be looking for in a business class desktop.
- Business class Operating system (Windows XP PRO, Vista Business)
- The fastest bus possible (currently 1333mhz)
- SAS hard drives with speeds of 7200rpm or 10,000rpm
- Expandable chasis for additional CD ROMs or hard drives if you need them
- 4Gb of memory in the minimal amount of pieces possible
- DVD ROM
- Gigabit network card
- Quality keyboard and mouse
- 3 year warranty on parts and labour
